At a joint meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Ebadi, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated victories of the Iraqi government, army and popular forces in their fight against terrorism adding “liberation of Mosul is a symbol of an end to terrorism and victory of Iran, Iraq, Syria and all countries in the region who are combating the scourge of terrorism”.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, which considers victory against terrorists and Iraqi nation’s security as its own victory and security, has been, and will always be, on the side of the Iraqi nation, he continued.
Describing the intensification of terrorist acts in the region as a part of vicious plot by the Zionists, Dr. Rouhani added “combating terrorism must not make us forget the issue of Al-Quds and the threats the Zionist Regime poses to the region.”
There is no obstacle on the way of development and deepening of Tehran-Baghdad relations, said Rouhani voicing Tehran’s willingness to establish stronger ties in all fields with Baghdad; “undoubtedly, cementing and deepening ties between the two countries is what both Iranian and Iraqi nations want to serve common interests.”
Referring to deep cultural and religious commonalities between the two nations, Iran’s President also said “facilitating visa issuance has a significant effect on the process of developing tourism, which in turn can strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade, science, culture, and pilgrimage.”
On the extensive potentials in the two countries to deepen economic and trade cooperation, he also stressed prompt implementation of agreements made and removing obstacles including in banking, adding “the two governments and nations have the required will and willingness to strengthen these ties.”
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also referred to the importance of dredging Arvand River within the framework of the existing agreements between the two countries.
Dr. Rouhani went on to mention the significance of protecting the territorial integrity of countries in the region saying “geographical changes and dividing countries is unacceptable and not to the benefit of any country in the region and the Islamic Republic of Iran supports an integrated and united Iraq and, without a doubt, any move with the aim of undermining unity and integrity in Iraq will benefit no one and is unacceptable.”
Also at the meeting, Iraqi PM al-Ebadi stressed that Iraq is determined to develop its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields underlining that the Iraqi government is willing to deepen its cooperation with Iran in all fields, especially in trade.
Describing more cooperation between all countries of the region, especially Tehran and Baghdad essential in combating terrorism, the visiting official said “ISIS terrorists recognize no borders and limitations and all countries must cooperate in combating this common threat.”
